Fibromyalgia Pain

Anyone living with fibromyalgia knows that there are good days and bad days when it comes to pain. Fortunately, while you can’t stop the bad days entirely, there are ways of reducing their duration and severity. Here are just a few tips for overcoming fibromyalgia pain.

Heat

Applying heat to your tender points can increase the circulation around them and relieve some of the soreness and stiffness. If you’re experiencing any inflammation, it can also bring down the swelling. For small spots, use a heating pad or warm compress. For all-over aches, consider soaking in a hot bath or going to the steam room of your local sauna.

Essential Oils

Essential oils can’t eliminate pain, but they can make pain-related symptoms easier to bear. For example, if you toss and turn at night because of your fibromyalgia, applying eucalyptus oil to your chest can help you breathe calmly and drift off to sleep. If your muscles are locked up after a long day of wincing and trembling through pain spikes, putting some lavender or tea tree oil in a diffuser can slowly fill the room with a soothing, relaxing fragrance.

Vitamins and Minerals

These are pain management supplements that aren’t exclusive to fibromyalgia, but they can still help with things like full-body aches. If you have any sort of vitamin deficiency, it’s going to aggravate the pain symptoms that you’re already experiencing in your body. You’ll need to increase your vitamin intake to soothe them. Consider things like vitamin a to boost your immune system, vitamin B12 to reduce your fatigue and vitamin C to encourage repair and restoration in your tissue.

Breathing Exercises

Researchers have suggested that one of the reasons for fibromyalgia pain is a “glitch” in the brain that affects how pain signals are transmitted. In this case, heating pads are only going to do so much. You’re going to need mental relief as well as physical healing. By learning how to breathe deeply and enter a relaxed, almost meditative state, you can soothe the neurons that are trying to fire off in your brain and raise all of the alarms. You can tell them, “I know. But I’m okay. I’m breathing through the pain.”

Living with fibromyalgia can seem like an uphill battle at times. However, you don’t have to struggle up the summit on your own. With the help of these tips and tricks, you can reduce your fibromyalgia pain and get back to your normal routine.
