Although many are taking all proper precautions to keep themselves and their families safe in the midst of this pandemic, it’s important to also keep an eye out for other illnesses that are still out there. Recent studies have shown that not only are foodborne outbreaks on the rise but a recent survey found that nearly 20 percent of people still don’t regularly wash their produce before consuming.
To make matters worse, the same survey found that nearly one in four Americans wash their refrigerator vegetable drawers every six months to a year! Since refrigerator drawers make the perfect environment for bacteria growth, not sanitizing your drawers can lead them to be up to 45 times dirtier than a public toilet seat. To help you keep your kitchen and produce clean, check out the rest of the results from that survey along with a list of some of the dirtiest germ spots in your kitchen, below. You’ll also find FDA recommended tips on how to properly wash fruits and vegetables to avoid catching a nasty bug or a foodborne virus.
