It’s that time of the year when the gyms are all at their maximum capacity. People have enjoyed the holidays; they ate too much and now want to fulfill their new year resolutions of getting in shape.

Joining the gym is the obvious choice when it comes to being more healthy. The gym is where you can get lose extra weight, get in shape, be more active, find similar minded people, and feel better when you see the results. Joining and going to the gym on a regular basis can be a challenge, at first, but if you stick with it, it’s one habit that yields exponential rewards. The first gym visit can be intimidating. It can feel scary especially if you compare yourself with regular gym-goers who are there every day and make a gym their second home. That is why it is so important to find a gym that you will like and be comfortable using. You might also consider using gender-specific gyms or “female-only” or “male-only” if you think you might be more at ease there.

Price is also an important factor and will reflect your decision regarding which one to join.

Because you’re new, it’s best to try a few different gyms to see which one you like the most. This means you might want to get a daily pass rather than sign up for a long-term membership. If you can’t pay for a daily pass, many gyms offer special deals where you can sign up for three or six months membership.

One tip we recommend is to go to the gym with a friend. You’re much more likely to stick to a gym routine if you have someone else going and supporting you.

It’s also a good idea if the budget allows, to hire a personal trainer, especially if you’re new. A personal trainer will help you get comfortable and also will tailor a program specifically designed to address your physical needs. They’ll also teach you how to use various gym machines properly and what you need to do to minimize injury! This is crucial, especially for someone who is just starting.

The first step of joining the gym is often the scariest, especially if your out of shape or haven’t exercised for a long time. But once you start the rewards will justify all the difficulties you’ll encounter as you start your journey.
