Improving Your Vision Tips

Fading eyesight is an issue for many Americans today. It’s an extremely common phenomenon that is experienced by many as the yage. If you feel like your eyesight is beginning to fail, don’t give up hope. Here are 4 tips you can use to help maintain, and maybe even improve your vision.

Eat Nutritious Foods

Your eyes need certain vitamins and minerals in order to function properly, like vitamin A, C, and E as well as minerals copper and zinc. Antioxidants like lutein and beta carotene protect your eyes from sunlight, so you should eat foods like egg yolk, bell peppers, and sweet potatoes to help protect your eyes.

Eye Exercise

Most people don’t know this, but exercising your eyes is important to their health. The best time to do these exercises is in the morning right before you wake up or at night right before you go to bed. This is because this is when your eyes are going to feel the most tired. Start by rolling your eyes around in your head a little bit, and then start exercising your focus. You can do this by rapidly switching back and forth between focusing on something close to you and then something far away.  It’s possible that this will begin to give you a headache when you first start out. If you start to feel this, massaging your temples can help ease the impact.

Medical Checks

Be sure to go to an eye doctor regularly for routine vision checks. This is going to be especially important as you get older. Even if you have never needed corrective lenses in your life there is always a chance that your eyesight will start to degrade as you get older. If your doctor recommends corrective lenses for you, remember that you have options. Many people find that glasses are not too much of an impediment in their lives, but for some they can be rather imposing. If this is the case for you then you should look into contact lenses as a good alternative.

Finally, make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep. When you’re sleeping you are resting your eyes. This is how they recuperate from the stresses of the day. Getting at least 8 hours of sleep every night works wonders for the health of your eyes. You can apply this same principle in the short term as well by taking breaks from staring at your computer or other electronics, etc.

Eyes are amazing things, but they need to be cared for. Following these simple tips should help you care for your eyes and maintain your good vision as long as possible.
