Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a term used to describe widespread pain of the muscular system of unknown etiology. This may leave you feeling frustrated since you can’t pinpoint the cause of your disease. Here are some of the more common symptoms that are associated with fibromyalgia.

Extreme Exhaustion

Generalized fatigue is one of the more commonly observed symptoms. This isn’t really all that surprising when you consider the fact that you may be in pain all day. Your body is attempting to signal to you and let you know that you need to get some rest so that you can heal. The unfortunate side effect of fibromyalgia is that the pain doesn’t stop even when you’re resting. This can lead to you having trouble staying asleep at night. As this cumulative effect progresses, you may find yourself more and more tired each day.

Difficulty Sleeping

There are other aspects of fibromyalgia that can make getting enough sleep problematic. Restless legs and trouble staying asleep are fairly common. Sleep apnea could be one of the causes that aren’t allowing you to get enough rest at night. This in turn leads to feeling exhausted during the day. Your doctor may be able to help treat some of these symptoms as they arise. This could help you to get a little bit more rest each day.

Disordered Thought Patterns

Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety are also common symptoms of fibromyalgia. This could be caused by the condition itself or be a side effect of being in constant pain. Exhaustion may also play a part in you developing a mood disorder. Being in pain may be the underlying reason for your inability to focus on the task at hand. Some people describe this condition as walking around in a fog. What that means is that your thoughts aren’t clear and ordered.

Unknown Origin of Pain

The pain of fibromyalgia is often widespread and chronic in nature. It may feel as though your nerves are out of control. This can leave you debilitated and unable to perform your day to day activities. There may have been an event, such as a trauma, that triggered your symptoms. In some instances, the pain came on gradually and built up over time. There may be some evidence that supports the theory that some suffers of fibromyalgia have a neurological condition.


Look into seeing a doctor to help develop a pain management protocol. Controlling the pain may help to improve upon some of the other symptoms that are common with fibromyalgia.
